Food Label Sticker Printing Malaysia: How to Choose the Right Label

Waterproof and non-waterproof sticker labels are made for different uses. Waterproof labels are more suitable for products that may come into contact with water, condensation, moisture or wet hands, such as chilled drink bottles, toiletries and some outdoor products. Non-waterproof paper labels are better for dry indoor packaging, price tags, barcode labels and labels that need to be written on.

The right label depends on the material, adhesive, packaging surface, storage condition and how the product will be used. A label that can handle light moisture may not be suitable for soaking in water or long-term outdoor use. It is best to test a sample on the actual packaging before printing. Choosing the right label helps keep the information clear and reduces peeling, staining or damage.

What Are Waterproof and

Non-Waterproof Sticker Labels?

What Is Waterproof Sticker Label?

A waterproof sticker label is made from a film-based material that does not easily absorb water. This helps the label stay clear, strong and in good condition when exposed to splashes, moisture, water drops or wet hands. Common materials include PP and PVC, which are usually stronger and more water-resistant than paper.

However, waterproof does not mean the label can handle every wet condition. A label that works well on a cold bottle may not be suitable for long soaking, dishwashing, strong chemicals or long-term outdoor use. Waterproof and weatherproof are not always the same.

Before printing, test a sample on the actual packaging under the same conditions in which the product will be stored and used.

What Is Non-Waterproof Sticker Label?

A non-waterproof sticker label is usually made from paper and is suitable for dry indoor use. Because paper can absorb moisture, the label may soften, wrinkle, stain, tear or become unclear after contact with water. It is therefore not recommended for chilled bottles, frozen products, bathrooms or packaging exposed to regular splashes. However, it is usually a more cost-effective option for products that do not need water resistance.

Non-waterproof sticker labels can provide clear printing, a natural paper look and a surface that is easy to write on. EAN Label’s Simili Sticker, for example, is suitable for dry food boxes, barcode labels, price tags, logistics labels and general indoor packaging. Buyers should still test the label if the product may be exposed to moisture, oil or different storage conditions.

Waterproof vs Non-Waterproof Sticker Labels: Key Differences

The main difference is simple: a film-based waterproof sticker label resists moisture and tearing better, while a paper-based non-waterproof sticker label suits dry, controlled environments.

Waterproof Sticker Label Options

Waterproof White PP, Pearlised White PP and Silver PP sticker labels on cosmetic and personal care products

1. White PP Sticker: a versatile waterproof choice

White PP Sticker is a film-based polypropylene sticker label with a white surface and good resistance to moisture and tearing. It is suitable for beverage bottles, sauce jars, skincare containers, toiletries and other packaging exposed to condensation or light splashes. The key reminder is that a waterproof face material does not guarantee adhesion on every surface. Test it on the actual clean, dry container, especially when the packaging is curved, chilled or frequently handled.

2. Pearlised White PP Sticker: waterproof with a soft shine

Pearlised White PP Sticker is a film-based polypropylene sticker label with a soft pearlescent sheen, moisture resistance and good tear resistance. It is suitable for premium food packaging, beauty products, skincare, gifts and curved containers that need a refined waterproof appearance. The key reminder is that its sheen can affect how colours and details look under different lighting. Review a printed sample on the actual packaging before confirming the artwork and production.

3. Silver PP Sticker: waterproof with a metallic finish

Silver PP Sticker is a metallic polypropylene sticker label with a reflective silver finish, water resistance and oil resistance. It is suitable for chilled products, cosmetics, supplements and selected industrial labels that need durability and stronger shelf presence. The key reminder is that the silver base can change how printed colours appear compared with a white material or screen preview. Review a printed sample before approving the final artwork and production run.

Non-Waterproof Sticker Label Options

4. Simili Sticker: non-waterproof and writable

Simili Sticker is an uncoated, paper-based sticker label with a smooth surface that can be written on using a pen or pencil. It is suitable for dry food boxes, barcode labels, price tags, logistics labels and other indoor packaging that stays away from moisture. Its main limitation is water exposure: the paper may soften, stain or tear on chilled bottles, wet containers or products handled with oily or damp hands. Test it if storage conditions may change.

5. Art Paper Sticker: non-waterproof with a smooth matte finish

Art Paper Sticker is a coated, paper-based sticker label with a smooth, matte surface that supports clear text and detailed colour printing. It is suitable for dry food boxes, cosmetic cartons, pharmaceutical packaging, barcode labels and general retail products used indoors. Its key limitation is that the paper base is not waterproof and may absorb moisture, soften or tear. Keep it away from condensation and regular splashes, and test any finishing on the actual packaging before production.

6. Mirrorcoat Sticker: non-waterproof with a glossy finish

Mirrorcoat Sticker is a coated, paper-based sticker label with a glossy surface that produces bright colours and an eye-catching finish at a practical cost. It is suitable for bakery boxes, snack packaging, gift products, retail labels and other dry indoor applications. Its key limitation is that it is not waterproof, even though lamination may improve resistance to light splashes and scratches. It should not be used for soaking, washing, chilled condensation or frequent exposure to moisture.

EAN Label also offers other sticker options depending on the product, packaging surface and usage conditions. Share your packaging type, label size, quantity and storage condition with our team for a suitable recommendation and quotation.

Common Mistakes When Choosing Sticker Label Materials

Food label stickers in Malaysia commonly include information such asChoosing the wrong label usually happens when buyers focus on only one factor. Common mistakes include:

  • Choosing a paper label for a chilled or moisture-exposed product only because it costs less.
  • Assuming every waterproof sticker label is also suitable for long-term outdoor use.
  • Applying a sticker label to a wet, oily, dusty or dirty surface.
  • Assuming lamination turns every paper sticker label into a fully waterproof sticker label.
  • Ordering production without testing a sample on the actual packaging.

Can Lamination Make a Paper Sticker Waterproof?

Lamination can improve the surface resistance of a paper sticker, but it does not automatically turn the whole sticker label into a waterproof sticker label. Water may still enter through cut edges, reach the paper base or affect the adhesive.

Lamination is useful when a paper sticker label needs better protection from light splashes, rubbing or scratches. When regular moisture, condensation or wet handling is expected, choosing a film-based face material from the beginning is usually more reliable.

How to Test a Sticker Sample Before Ordering

A simple real-use test is more helpful than selecting a material from appearance alone.

  1. Clean the packaging. Remove dust, oil, water and product residue.
  2. Apply the sample correctly. Place it on the actual glass, plastic, metal or cardboard surface without touching the adhesive too much.
  3. Let it settle. Follow the printer’s advice before beginning the exposure test.
  4. Copy real conditions. Refrigerate the bottle, expose it to condensation, add light splashes or place an outdoor sample where the product will really be used.
  5. Inspect the result. Check the print, colour, edges, bubbles, wrinkles, tearing and whether the label has moved or lifted.

For products exposed to oil, cleaning agents, heat, deep freezing or long outdoor use, tell the printing team before sampling. These conditions need more than a general water test.
